This world is like a vestibule to the next
Life in this world is merely a short chapter before eternal life in the world to come after death. The purpose of physical life is to prepare the soul for a higher level in anticipation of the spiritual world.
("Rabbi Yaakov says, "This world is like a vestibule within the world to come. Set yourself up in the vestibule as if you were to gather for a bath." - Avot 4:16-17)

הַחַיִּים בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה הִנָּם רַק פֶּרֶק זְמַן קָצָר לִפְנֵי חַיֵּי הַנֶּצַח בָּעוֹלָם הַבָּא לְאַחַר הַמָּוֶת. מַטְּרַת הַחַיִּים בָּעוֹלָם הַגַּשְׁמִי לְהַכְשִׁיר אֶת הַנְּשָׁמָה לְדַרְגָּה גְּבוֹהָה לִקְרַאת הָעוֹלָם הָרוּחָנִי.
