The force of compromise is better than the force of judgment
Compromise is preferable to a court ruling. It is better for the parties to a legal dispute to reach a mutually agreed settlement than to have a judge issue a verdict. A judgment may necessarily be to the detriment of one side, whereas a compromise agreement has strength and durability because everyone’s consent is built into it.
("And the force of compromise is better than the force of judgment, for two litigants who have gone to judgment may retract, whereas two who have made a compromise—the litigants cannot retract" – Sanhedrin 5b)

הַפְּשָׁרָה עֲדִיפָה מֵחֲרִיצַת דִּין. עָדִיף שֶׁהַצְּדָדִים לְסִכְסוּךְ מִשְׁפָּטִי יַגִּיעוּ לַפְּשָׁרָה הַמֻּסְכֶּמֶת עֲלֵיהֶם מֵאֲשֶׁר יִנָּתֵן פְּסַק דִּין עַל יְדֵי הַשּׁוֹפֵט. פְּסַק דִּין עָלוּל לִהְיוֹת בְּהֶכְרֵחַ לְרָעַת אַחַד הַצְּדָדִים, וּכְמוֹ כֵּן הֶסְכֵּם הַפְּשָׁרָה הוּא בַּעַל חֹזֶק וִיכֹלֶת קִיּוּם מֻטְבַּעַת בּוֹ הַסְכָּמַת כֻּלָּם.
