To examine or check someone's behavior or actions after them.

("The Rabbis taught: If one was walking outside the city and sees a child with a torch in his hand, he examines after him: if he is an Israelite, he blesses; if a gentile, he does not bless." - Berakhot 53a. And similarly: "On other days Noah goes to the place he goes and does what he does, and Hanina Lipa does not examine after him." - Bialik, Me'achorei HaGader, 9. And similarly: "And so we learn that one should not rely on the opinion of others, and even if the whole world tells you that so-and-so is such, you must examine after him." - Agnon, Tachrich Shel Sipurim, 89)
