אֵין הָאוֹר נִכַּר אֶלָּא מִתּוֹךְ הַחֹשֶׁךְ
הָאוֹר בּוֹלֵט רַק כְּשֶׁיֵּשׁ חֹשֶׁךְ סְבִיבוֹ. בְּהַשְׁאָלָה: הֶחָכָם בּוֹלֵט יוֹתֵר כְּשֶׁהוּא מֻקָּף בְּטִפְּשִׁים. כָּל דָּבָר טוֹב בּוֹלֵט עַל רֶקַע הַנִּגּוּד שֶׁלּוֹ.

Light stands out only when there is darkness around it. Figuratively: a wise person stands out more when surrounded by fools. Any good thing is more noticeable against the background of its opposite.
