A person knows himself and his own limitations. Or: everyone naturally looks out for their own interests first (originally from Jewish law, meaning that a person cannot testify against themselves, as they are considered a “relative” and therefore biased).

אָדָם מַכִּיר אֶת עַצְמוֹ וְאֶת מִגְבְּלוֹתָיו. אוֹ: כָּל אָדָם דּוֹאֵג קֹדֶם כֹּל לְעַצְמוֹ (בַּמָּקוֹר: אָדָם לֹא יָכוֹל לְהָעִיד נֶגֶד עַצְמוֹ כִּי הוּא בְּגֶדֶר 'קְרוֹב מִשְׁפָּחָה' הַנֶּחְשָׁב לְ'בַּעַל עִנְיָן' בְּכָל הַנּוֹגֵעַ לְמַתַּן עֵדוּת עַל עַצְמוֹ וְלָכֵן אֵינוֹ אוֹבְּיֶקְטִיבִי).
