The adversary or his hater. The person engaged in conflict with him (in Aramaic means hatred or strife).

הַיָּרִיב אוֹ הַשּׂוֹנֵא שֶׁלּוֹ. הָאָדָם הַמָּצוּי בְּרִיב אִתּוֹ (דָּבַב בַּאֲרָמִית שִׂנְאָה אוֹ רִיב).
