Euphemistically
In the opposite sense of the literal words spoken. The opposite of what is understood. For example: calling a fool “the great sage” in the language of segi nehor (the expression segi nehor means in Aramaic “master of light,” and was used as a term for a blind person using opposite language so as not to offend him. This is how the Amora Rav Sheshet, who was blind, was called).
("Rav Sheshet was segi nehor" – Berakhot 58a; and: "In the market of the blind, they called a half-blind person segi nehor" – Bereshit Rabbah 30:9; and: "And the Ra'avad wrote that this Kushite is Zipporah, who was black and resembled a Kushite, and Rashi wrote that due to her beauty she was called a Kushite in segi nehor, and it was spoken of when she separated from her husband" – Malbim, Numbers 12:1; and: "They teased each other in all words of mockery and insults, and each called his friend in segi nehor 'the great sage,' meaning a fool of the world, or 'a proper Jew,' meaning an apostate and assimilated" – Mendeli / Lo Nachat B’Yaakov; and: "For Mendel, a pointed nose, and he was called 'Kharumf' in segi nehor" – Sholem Aleichem / Ashrei, Yatom Ani, 29; and: "Just as he did not lose at first, so he did not lose at the end… segi nehor was applied against the evil eye" – Agnon / Ir U’Melua, 681)
