No one labors over a meal only to waste it
A person does not toil in preparing a meal only to throw it away. Figuratively: one is not willing to labor in vain and incur losses without enjoying the fruits of their work.

אֵין אָדָם טוֹרֵחַ בַּהֲכָנַת הַסְּעוּדָה כְּדֵי לְהַשְׁלִיכָהּ לָאַשְׁפָּה. בְּהַשְׁאָלָה: אָדָם אֵינוֹ מוּכָן לִטְרֹחַ לְחִנָּם וּלְהַפְסִיד הֶפְסֵדִים מִבְּלִי לֵהָנוֹת מֵעֲמָלוֹ.
