You cannot compare one who has bread in his basket to one who does not

You cannot compare one who has bread in his basket to one who does not

A person who has bread and food is not like one who does not have food. By extension: someone who lacks a certain thing desires it more than someone who already has it. There is no comparison between one whose needs are satisfied and one whose are not.

("For every booth they would say to him: Here is food and here is water. It was taught: No person ever needed it, but you cannot compare one who has bread in his basket to one who does not." - Yoma 18b)
