If I am not for myself, who is for me?
If I do not make an effort for myself, who will do it for me? A proverb stating that a person must strive and achieve by their own efforts, for no one else will strive or do for them what is necessary.

אִם אֲנִי לֹא אֶטְרַח לְמַעַן עַצְמִי, מִי יַעֲשֶׂה זֹאת עֲבוּרִי? פִּתְגָּם לְפִיו עַל הָאָדָם לְהִתְאַמֵּץ וּלְהַגִּיעַ לְהֶשֵּׂגִים בְּכוֹחוֹת עַצְמוֹ, כִּי אַף אֶחָד לֹא יִתְאַמֵּץ וְיַעֲשֶׂה עֲבוּרוֹ אֶת מָה שֶׁצָּרִיךְ.
