When a person prays in Jerusalem, it is as if he is praying before God’s throne of glory.

The holiness of Jerusalem brings one’s prayers closer to God.

(“As it is said: ‘And he was afraid and said: How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God’ (Genesis 28:17). From here they said: Whoever prays in Jerusalem is as though he prays before the Throne of Glory, for the gate of heaven is there, and an open entrance to hear prayer.” — Midrash Tehillim (Buber), Psalm 102)
