One thing in hardship is better for a person than a hundred in ease

A person values more something achieved through effort and toil than something that came easily.

("If you studied Torah in a time of plenty, do not sit idle in a time of hunger. If you studied Torah in a time of relief, do not sit idle in a time of pressure, for it is better for a person one thing in hardship than a hundred in ease, as it is said: 'In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening do not let your hand rest.'" - Masechet Ketanot, Avot de-Rabbi Natan, Version A, Chapter 3)
