An expression referring to reward, punishment, or meaning that extends both in this world (the present life) and the next world (the afterlife), often in a religious or moral context.

("Your reward is very great – in this world and the next; this is great in this world and very much in the next world" – Radak on Genesis 15:1, and also: "With pleasant words and in his delightful sermons he informed them what the Lord requires of them and what a person shall do to live in this world and the next" – Agnon, A Shroud of Stories, p. 104, and also: "A commandment is great in its time, for it saves a person from calamities in this world and the next.
