Prayer Leader's Repetition/ repetition of the Amidah by the cantor

A part of the communal prayer in which the prayer leader repeats the silent prayer aloud.

('This is the custom. After the congregation finishes 'Orekh Yamim,' the prayer leader repeats it and says 'Orekh Yamim.' And he says, 'Ve-Atah Kadosh,' and 'one calls to another'" — Seder Rav Amram Gaon (Rafens), order for Motzaei Shabbat; and likewise: 'Regarding the repetition of the prayer leader's prayer in the synagogue, even though כולם are proficient, it was originally instituted because of the possibility that perhaps some are not proficient' — Taz, Orach Chayim, siman 6; and likewise: 'But during the prayer leader's repetition, when the prayer leader opened with 'Kedushah' and chanted 'Nekaddishkha ve-na'aritzkha ke-noam si'ah sod sarfei kodesh'...' — H.
