The center of the world. Figuratively: the most important place ("navel" figuratively means "center". See also: "navel of the city").

("As it is written (Song of Songs 7): 'Your navel is like a round bowl, let it not lack mixed wine,' etc.—'your navel' refers to the Sanhedrin. Why is it called 'your navel'?
