Months of the Kallah/ the month of Adar and Elul (before the feasts Pessah and Rosh Hashana)

The months of Adar and Elul were designated as the months during which the disciples of the wise men gathered in the yeshivahs of Babylon to hear sermons during the Passover or Tishri festivals. The tradition began in the Sura Yeshiva in Babylon by the Amora Rav who stood at its head. Today, synagogues meet on the 'months of all' at various times to hear sermons from rabbis and scholars (literally: holy months for all, that is, for the Torah).

("One who enters a lake in a dream becomes head of a yeshiva; one who enters a forest becomes head of the kallah students" — Berakhot 57a; and likewise: "These are the rabbis of the academy, whose custom is to provide for themselves in Adar and Elul, the months of the kallah" — Sefer HaEshkol (Albeck), Laws of Charity, p. 178a)
