Flying Dust / Fleeting Dust
Fine dust that floats in the air. Figuratively: something worthless or insignificant.
("Man's foundation is dust... / Like dry grass and a withering blossom / Like a passing shadow and a fading cloud / Like the blowing wind and flying dust / And like a dream that flies." – the piyyut V’natnah Tokef, recited on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, attributed to Rabbi Amnon of Magonza; and also: "But imagination is like a passing shadow with no reality at all, and like flying dust upon which you cannot sow." – Agnon, Only Yesterday, p. 45)
