A person is only envious: a wise man of a wise man, and a rich man of a rich man
Envy arises mainly between people who are similar in status, talent, or wealth. A person does not envy what he has no chance of attaining or what he does not see himself as belonging to.

הַקִּנְאָה מִתְעוֹרֶרֶת בְּעִקָּר בֵּין אֲנָשִׁים הַדּוֹמִים זֶה לָזֶה בְּמַעֲמַד, בְּכִשָּׁרוֹן אוֹ בְּעֹשֶׁר. אָדָם לֹא יְקַנֵּא בְּמָה שֶׁאֵין לוֹ סִכּוּי לְהַשִּׂיג אוֹ בְּמָה שֶׁאֵינוֹ רוֹאֶה אֶת עַצְמוֹ שַׁיָּךְ אֵלָיו.
