Better a live dog than a dead lion
Life is preferable to death, even if it is difficult. "Life is wonderful, considering the alternative."

הַחַיִּים עֲדִיפִים עַל פְּנֵי הַמָּוֶות גַּם אִם הֵם קָשִׁים. "הַחַיִּים הֵם נִפְלָאִים בְּהִתְחַשֵּׁב בָּאַלְטֶרְנָטִיבָה".
