Sat Between the Sheepfolds (יָשַׁב בֵּין הַמִּשְׁפְּתַיִם)

Sat Between the Sheepfolds

In literary style: sat with folded arms, refraining from taking part in the matter. (Meshfatayim means a boundary or the enclosure of the sheepfolds.)

("Why did you sit between the sheepfolds to listen to the piping of the flocks among the divisions of Reuben's great heart-searchings"—Judges 5:16; and likewise: "Still our shepherds sit in divisions, to muse in the calm of the sheepfolds, to heed the stirrings of their hearts and to hear the piping of the flocks"—Natan Yonatan, Night of Hay in the Fields of Jezreel)
