A literary blessing addressed to God that is customarily written at the beginning of a book or as its introduction. A blessing of thanksgiving to God for granting a person something important. The blessing contains, in its acrostic initials, the name YHWH.

("May the Creator be blessed and the Redeemer exalted..." and He has graciously enabled me for these eighteen years to glean in His holy field from the first of its produce, like a poor man gathering a few ears of grain from among the sheaves; also to go up to His vineyard planted on the mountain peaks, to gather from there the gleanings, as in years past, and as three berries, and to bring them up in the books of Firstfruits of Jacob ... and He enabled me to bring this work out into the light five years ago.
