יוֹם הַזִּיכָּרוֹן (יוֹם הַזִּכָּרוֹן לַשּׁוֹאָה וְלַגְּבוּרָה)
כַּיּוֹם: יוֹם לְזֵכֶר חַלְלֵי צַהַ"ל וְנִפְגְּעֵי פְּעֻלּוֹת הָאֵיבָה אוֹ יוֹם הַזִּכָּרוֹן לַנִּרְצָחִים בַּשּׁוֹאָה. Today: a day commemorating fallen IDF soldiers and victims of hostile acts, or the memorial day for those murdered in the Holocaust. (Originally, the intention was the holiday of Rosh Hashanah, as stated in Leviticus 23:24: “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, there shall be for you a sabbath, a memorial of blowing, a holy convocation.”)
("Blessed are You, Lord, King over all the earth, who sanctifies Israel and the Day of Remembrance" — Kiddush for Rosh Hashanah; and likewise: "And so it says, 'Blow the shofar in the month, at the covering, on our festival day' (Psalms 81:4). Which festival is covered by the month?
